Hi! I want to edit my previous comment! I tried the whole recipe again and this time let the butter get a bit softer than ice cold like I might use in an American biscuit recipe (yes, I’m American)–and it turned out fantastic! Thanks so much for this recipe–it brought back so many great memories of the family I lived with when I was a student in the UK in the 1980s.

In reply to Chelsea.

I had the same issue and I buttered and floured the tin beforehand. I also found the pastry really hard to handle as it was too dry. I finally ended up adding a few tablespoons of water to it and it came together. However–it tasted wonderful and stayed flaky and the pies tasted soooo good!! So overall I was happy with it. I’ll just need to remember to add water next time if it is dry–or look for another pastry recipe if I’m feeling really motivated!

Does this amount of mincemeat all get used up in the 12 mince pies? I need to make 24!

Without a doubt the best mince pies I’ve ever made. I don’t use any other recipe now.

Oh no! This sounds like a problem with the tin perhaps as some aren’t non-stick or aren’t great quality. You may have to line the bases x

Never made pastry before and must have done something wrong as it got stuck to the tin and couldn’t get it out without breaking it 🙁 it still tasted lovely though!! Do you know what I might have done wrong?

This is the best mince pie recipe I’ve ever used. I can never go back to store bought now.
